Do you know if the heads of the studs, rivets and the steel support plates that hold the heater box to the fire wall were painted? It looks like I might see a little touch of black on the heads of the studs...

I just looked at two boxes, a 63 and a 64. All the studs looks as if they were semi-flat black, Krylon 1613. Lets see what others say.

Thanks. That's what I suspected. John

If you don't want to do it yourself there are people out there that specialize in repairing the heater box.

I just fixed a similar problem. Used panel bond to restore the shape of the missing piece by shaping a piece of aluminum to fit on and around the edge. Drilled a hole through the repair spot using the heater core bracket to mark the hole. Then used an elevator bolt which I ground down on 2 side. May not be a sanctioned repair according to NCRS judging standards, but it turned out pretty good. Also, used Bumper Black to wipe down the heather box and bring some luster back to the box.
