While you have it apart, look carefully at the metal parts both where the gasket sits on the tank, and the bottom of the neck where it meets the gasket. If there is corrosion on either of these, it is less likely that a new gasket will solve your problem.

Your '67 has no evaporative emission control system, and has many more opportunities for fuel leaks/seeps/vapors. Start at the rear and check the fill cap gasket and the filler neck-to-tank gasket, the sending unit terminal studs and big O-ring seal on the bottom of the tank, the rubber hose from the sending unit outlet to the end of the main line on the frame, check the top of the spare tire tub and RH muffler for fuel stains, and check the insulator pads where the tank sits on the frame rear crossmember and front tank support.

At the front, check the rubber hose from the frame line to the fuel pump, the fitting at the fuel pump outlet, the multitude of fitting blocks for the carburetors, and look for fuel leaks/stains at each carburetor fuel inlet and float bowl gaskets.

The rear third of the main fuel line itself is routed inside the rear frame rail box section from the kickup area rearward, and they've been known to corrode and leak inside the frame.

Keep in mind the old fuel hoses do not like corn juice going thru them. Replace the hoses with modern day rubber that is intended for corn juice in the the fuel.

A common problem on the 69 Corvette is corrosion on the bottom of the tank where the tank sits on a cross member. (by memory) There is a thin strip of tar paper between the tank and cross member. However my car developed a number of pin holes in tank in that area and it started with a gas smell and then into visible leakage. Do not know if the tanks are the same between a 69 and a 74.

Check the screws (8-10) that hold the gas filler neck to the tank. I had a car that had 2 of these missing from a previous restoration. They were the hardest to get to and they had been left off which gave the tank a hole/leak when it was full up to the neck with gas. After putting 2 screws in the empty holes, everything was fine.
