    1967 Non-dot Super Sport Redlines

I'm thinking of buying these but, the seller wants $25,000.00 which doesn't include the wheels. Is that the going rate these days...5G per tire? Good deal or bad deal?

    Hey Mark,
i thought that if you wanted redlines in '67, the Goodyears were the only option? I could be WAY off and if so don't listen to anything I say

Seems like a lot without wheels. Even with wheels seems steep...

So exactly how much do you lose, point-wise for having DOT redlines on the car instead of non DOT's? Is it that much to justify $25k for them?

In the photos the tires look to good to be true - as in everything else in my lifetime " If you want them and you can afford them, buy them as you only go around one time". If you can't please yourself, who you going to please?

I was in Osage Beach MO for a Regional about 25 years ago. There was an offer of $25k for a set of BO's and a set of NOS tires. Owner laughed at the would be purchaser. Price might not be too bad today

            Chuck,
I know what the manual says but I believe that goodyear never made a redline tire for 67. Firestones and Uniroyals were the only ones made that year.

Valid evidence; i.e. everything, or mostly so

                Nick,
I have no concrete evidence but I have discussed this subject with Kevin McKay, the Naber bros and other collectors over the years and all believe as I do. I should know better than to say "never" because as we know with these cars, anything is possible. That being said, I have not seen a real non dot Goodyear redline tire for a 67.

                  Mark,
If you decide to buy these make sure to use at least 3 lug nuts on all four wheels. I know you had questions regarding the necessity seat bolts when having your car judged, but I feel enough lug nuts are not only important for scoring more points, there is also a safety factor to be conserned with.

Hey Dick, was that on one of the many Corvettes that was stolen that week??? And yes, I was there to see one driving away as the owner was chasing him down. The owner now, RIP!

                      Mark:

These tires appear to be old stock, but about 5 years (or so) ago Coker made and SOLD reproduction Firestone SuperSport redlines without DOT codes/markings. This was short-lived, but some of these tires are out there. This was the initial period when they (Coker) retooled their redlines from Firestone Deluxe Champion to the correct Firestone SuperSport.

Can you (or have you) verify the Firestone plant codes versus known originals??

I personally would not pay the $$$$$ for these tires, when the most they will gain is 3 or 4 judging points. But that is obviously your decision.

                        Larry,
Great point about cokers run of non dot redlines. However any experienced judge can easily tell the many differences between the two. The shape of the sidewall, the width and color of the stripe, and the tread pattern are some of the more obvious differences between originals and repops. Mark, if you decide to pass on these, please let me know. I have a friend who will buy them.

                          $25 K for 3 points

NOT WORTH IT EVEN IF THEY ARE REAL

My 2 cents which leaves $ 24,999.98 left

This was the year before the National JR. RP was there when a car owner unloaded his car with those wheels and tires on it. He even offered to buy the car so he could get the wheels and tires.
