Do these rims have the letter K after the size. like 15x5 1/2 K or just 15x 5 1/2. Thanks.

Re: 63-64 steel rims
"K" is the Kelsey-Hayes designation stamped into the wheel. "K" is also used for rim contour designation as is "J', "JJ", and "JK".- Top

Re: 63-64 steel rims
Doug,
The 15x5 1/2 K stamping is the correct 63-64 wheel. The KH stamp should appear on the raised spider by the lug holes along with a GM stamp.- Top

Re: 63-64 steel rims
Just an FYI, if you find a set and restore them:
1) check the lug nut holes to be round
2) media blast the wheels
3) spray the entire with primer
4) spray the entire wheel with semi-flat black
5) only spray the face gloss black or body color
6) if there is a wheel restoration shop in the area contact them. I had 5 oz of weight on one of mine after the shop fixed the wheels (run out), 2 needed no weight, 1 was 1.25 oz, one was 1.50 oz and one was 2.25 oz.
Good luck!

Re: 63-64 steel rims
To clarify, the "K" in the "15 x 5-1/2K" stamped on the rim section under the tire is strictly the SAE rim section profile identifier; Kelsey-Hayes is identified by their circular logo stamped adjacent to it. The other large logo is for the Tire and Rim Association.- Top

Re: 63-64 steel rims
The '63-'64 wheels just started being reproduced, and I bought a set. I have yet to have them mounted and balanced, so I can let the community know how they turn out quality-wise once I get to that step.
My car is Daytona Blue - and I intend to put Blackwall tires on the car. Whitewall cars came with the wheels black, and Blackwall cars came with the wheels painted "body color". Now, for the dumb question - Daytona Blue is a metallic color, does that mean the wheels were also painted with the same metallic Daytona Blue paint as the body, or the wheels would have just been some generic shade of "Dark Blue".?- Top

Originally, those wheels were painted Daytona Blue (outer face only), but the paint WAS different - the body color wheel paint was wheel ENAMEL (the only application of enamel on the car).- Top
