Scott; For 64 the clip 3799990 shown in 64 AIM, Section 12, Sheets A10 & 11, item 4 is what you have listed.
However clip 3788712 was also used, Sec 12 sheetC3.00, item 4 and is the one shown in my picture, only on drivers side in 64.

The 3799990 clips on my car are both vinyl coated & in great shape. Just wanted to keep examples clear for everyone.

Do we know for sure that the splash shield brackets were installed on A.O. Smith cars before they arrived at St. Louis?

If they weren't, then all of the splash shield brackets would be black, regardless of where the body was made.

        Alan,

I think I understand what you are pointing out. I was referring specifically (at that point in my previous post) to the rain-gutter wire harness clips that hang down from the hood surround, with the open side of the clip facing the body panel fender vents, about 10-12" forward of the firewall, on the LH and RH side. These clips are GM 3799990 in 1964, Section 12, Sheet A9.00, item 22 (RH side) and Section 12, Sheet A11.00, item 21 (LH side). In 1965, this clip was changed from GM 3799990 to GM 3788712, on AIM date 9-23-64, and it remained GM 3788712 at that location through the end of 1967 production, according to the AIMs.

All of my GM 3799990 clips retain their rubber or vinyl coating too, even the ones that are not in such good shape, there is still lots of rubber/vinyl. The GM 3788712 clips have all been stripped of their rubber coating, so it must have been a less durable material, or a different thickness of material, or a different adhesive process, or something, that caused the protective coating to disappear on these particular clips but not on the GM 3799990 clips.

Does anyone have the blueprint for the GM 3788712 clip?
