I have searched the achieves to no avail, what would be the deduct for leaving the LT-1 stripe on the big block hood of my 427-390 1969. Let's surmise that all else is correct with paint, is it a full deduct, partial, how many points would that be off which section? Two fold question for me, first I have no clue as a judge how to view this NTP item and from a car owner I like the look of the stripes but need to weight their point value versus appearance. It would be the first time out for this vehicle. Thanks, Gary

Re: Flight judging deduct - LT-1 stripe
I believe it is addressed in the Judging Reference Manual. According to the manual, it will result in a total deduction. Many do not agree with the rule, but as the "Real Deal" says, it is what it is.Dick Whittington- Top

Re: Flight judging deduct - LT-1 stripe
At one of the Regionals this past year, and I think it was Altoona, there was an early C3 BB with sort of the same thing -- except his hood enhancement was a full slash, as if it was painted fully between the stripes the OP speaks of. When I enquired I was told it received a full paint deduction. Stan or "The Real Deal" could confirm. I enquired because it was a topic of discussion in the Advanced Judging Seminar, and I wanted to be sure I gave my students the factual information and not just my opinion.
I must say I found the treatment pleasing, but someone else might have had a different personal reaction and regardless of our personal reaction the standard is TFP, and this wasn't.Terry- Top

Re: Flight judging deduct - LT-1 stripe
Dick and TerryThank you for clarification on the standard deduction for the LT-1 stripe when it appears on a non LT-1 equipped car. I understand your information and appreciate the clarification. We have an an interesting set of guidelines to follow, it's a very severe penalty to pay in this case for what I would refer to as, "a small personalization". The stripes will have to be removed prior to the Regional judging if intend to capture a top flight. Regards, GaryNew England Chapter NCRS- Top

Re: Flight judging deduct - LT-1 stripe
Gary, as Dick and Terry said it is a full deduction per judging manual. It is the same as if a pin stripe was added the length of the car or a racing stripe down the middle. NTFP=TS and I understand that. Those LT-1 stripes do look nice, though.

Re: Flight judging deduct - LT-1 stripe
Sorry I couldn't resist, but that is easy for me with one in the garage. When I first wanted mine (in 1969) I had no clue that there would be strips on it. I just wanted that solid lifter small block. I was impressed witht he stripes and decal when I saw the car.
Gary if you want a base line reading for your car, and a punch list of easier to make changes -- just bring it out for us. Not everyone gets or expects a top flight the first time out, and the true purpose of judging is to help you improve your car so you can make positive changes for the next time out. It is a process, not a goal.Terry- Top

Re: Flight judging deduct - LT-1 stripe
No WI trip. I blew that off before I left for DFW. As it turned out AA was late getting in to ORD and it was nearly midnight when I got home -- I needed time to recover before work on Monday. I let the young guys like Bill Braun do that quick turn around.Terry- Top
