    70 Underbody Overspray

I am cleaning up the under body on my 70 Convertible while the tank is out and rear suspension id out as well..

Were the astro vents riveted to the body before or after painting?

There is also a reinforcement of sorts on the same side as the astro vents. It is about 8" long by a couple inches wide. Did it get installed before or after paint?

I am trying to determine if they should have any overspray on them. They had overspray but since there has been a couple repaints I am not sure how it looked from factory.

I looked through the archives and saw where the seat reinforcements were installed after painting but did not see a reference to the above items.

Also, am I correct in thinking they were painted black before being riveted in place?

    Thanks,

    Bill

    Re: 70 Underbody Overspray

Bill, when I did my 72 (1 repaint car) that rear panel had very light overspray on the the rear panel. The only detail I can give you is that 8" metal strip was gloss black .and there was a job no. back there in yellow paint stick. I did see some pic.s of the 300 mile 72 ZR1 and the seat reinforcements. were black phosopate and appeared that they were installed after the painting. if you send me a email by PM I will send you the underside side pic.s.

      Thank you Edward,

There is definitely overspray and the job number is there as well. I also found a date of 3 31 by the ant. opening in grease pencil. its week in June build date.

There is some overspray on the metal strip. I just am not sure if the overspray is a result of the repainting.

To clarify, there was no access to the bottom of the car to rivet reinforcements to the underbody after the Body Shop, which was prior to the Paint Shop.
