Here's two of the square designs. I've read that they went to countersunk (clutch) screws for clearance reasons (to manifold), in some applications. There's a third "banjo" [ie. non-square] type with same Phillips head screw/washers as shown on right. Both screw style pump covers have the same cast #34R-2178.
My tripower LIST 4055-1 dated 981 has the countersunk square type cover. A service LIST 2818-1 I have (with 4-digit date code) has the banjo style.
So what should an early '64 LIST 2818, dated 3A4 have ?
P.S. These covers and screw types are easily visible. Do mechanical judges check this ? (Not mentioned in '65 TIM&JG).
