I am not good on the computer so I can't send a picture on "e"mail but if you send me your address I will mail you a photo. Please advise. Dick Hodgman (11097) Could it be they were all circumcised ????
Richard, that was exactly my question. Everyone else so far seems to think their quality control was poor, but I am suspicious; especially because the nipped portion fits so well in this application.

I will send you an email through this board with my email address. Computer security makes me reluctant to post my email address here for all to see. Remember anyone can look at this board.

You know, just when we think we know all about how things were done and/or how parts looked originally on the older Corvettes, we learn new things, sometimes they are small things like what now appears to be a "special," "special" plain washer at least for 70s LT1s, about the variations in the processes and parts. That's one of the things that make this hobby fun. Pete

Re: My alternator adjusting washer is circumcised

I didn't think there was anything different about the LT1 alternator/mounting hardware vs the std engine or the BB engine. I do know that at least the upper alt bracket on BB's is different than SB's.

I recall this washer to be pretty unique due to its thickness (0.090"?) more than any other dimension. Is the washer's part number consistent in all (at least early) C3's? Same or different than C2's? I'll look up the part number in my '72 AIM as soon as I can and will post it so that others, with other with other years can check it out.

FWIW, I'd wager heavily that this is indeed a mis-punched part, nothing more. I ran a punch press shop for the auto components industry when I was a kid [relative term ]. I saw too much of this. It always sucked when the customer found/returned them and rubbed your nose in it - "Did I PAY for 3/4's of a part?"

Oct 20: If I'm seeing my '72 AIM (UPC 6/sheet A2) right, the base 350, the LT1 and the 454 all used the same upper alternator mounting fasteners. GM part number for the flat washer is shown as 3792420. Other years/engines?

              Don,
The 1968 AIM shows 3792420 as the part number for that washer. I do not have access to my other year AIMs, but my AIM collection is 1968-1972, so not too much would be gained from them anyway. I measured the thickness today at 0.090 +/- 0.010. Mine is warped into a cup shape, so I am not 100% sure I am getting an accurate measurement.

FWIW: There is another thread about 1967 alternator washers with the same part number and thickness quoted. Kind of makes one go HHMMM.

Terry - The 1963 thru 1967 AIMs all show the Special Washer 3792420 on the alternator adjustment bolt. Pete

Then I guess we can put a fork in the thickness question.
