About to have a set of rally wheels painted.

I brought my original spare to the paint shop so they could match the green silver paint color and the semi satin finish.

I noticed that the inside of the rims were painted black from the factory.

Should I also have the inside of the new rally wheels sprayed black at the same time?

Original steel wheels for early C3s (and I suspect a lot of other years as well) were first painted black in their entirety. The fronts were then sprayed Argent Silver before the valve stem was inserted. Over spray of the Argent went through the openings in the web and got on the obverse of the wheel to some extent. There is evidence from the puddling of the Argent that the wheels were painted while hung from the valve stem hole.

Argent Silver is a general description and the color can vary from year to year. Matching from a known original tire from the car is the best method of accurately duplicating the color and gloss level.

We just did the ones on my 71. Painted black first. Let dry for a couple of days, then did the silver.

Thanks for the replies. The painter I know is pretty old school and said it would bee npo problem to replicate the finish.
