I won the C4 "Stock" class at the NCCC National convention concours Indy in the summer of 1983. I think they called it at the time "Wash and Show". The classes were really screwed up that year because NCCC rules stated that ALL cars in "Pure Stock" must have the same width wheels on all 4 corners. I had one of the slightly odd early '84 that did not have Z51 but had 8.5" front and 9.5" rear wheels. This put me into the "Stock" class which had no competition so I won by default. The car was basically brand new, of course all C4s were new in 1983. It was the only time I entered concours so I guess you could say I retired an undefeated champion.

I agree with what others have said…its cleanliness show. They took a ton of time looking for streaks in the glass, shiny paint and tires. In “Wash and Show” they did not deduct for minor paint chips.

I thought the judge was going to have a heart attack when judging the car next to me. She found a French-Fry between the seat and the console. I suppose for NCRS it would be acceptable if you could prove the fry was left by a St. Louis or BG line workers.

Mike thanks for the info, too funny. I'm glad you were able to retire undefeated. I'll check for those fries, well, I tend to store my Cuban pasteries in my console. Hopefully, they won't open it.

You just hit on one of the high points ("RIGHT") in my Corvette career. In 2005 or 6 I joined the Las Vegas NCCC club because it was a social exclusive unit.
The following year NCCC had their National Show at the Stardust Hotel (subject for distruction after this show) at a very cheap rate. I entered my Duntov
57 in the C-1 Stock, hood up catagory. I came in 2nd. The car that won would not take 4th flight in NCRS. Chrome, rocker covers, radiator, battery cover, MSD ignition, S/S headers, that exhausted in front of the tires. Radial 7" wide tires, etc., etc. NCCC is a money pit and is not geared to the serious Corvette collector.

Thats my two cents and I am sticking to it.

The challenge will be keeping my car balanced between that meet and the upcoming NCRS Florida Winter Meet. At the end of the day, my focus is on NCRS...

You probably can't use too much "armor-all" for NCCC. The more shine, the better...under hood, wheel wells, tires, interior.

You will lose points at the NCRS Regional for too much shine. The 1993 next to me at the 2008 Michigan Regional lost points because it was not typical of dealer delivery appearance; too shiny.

Bill thanks for the response. I think I'll keep the shine in perspective. I use Aerospace 303 in moderation. Bill, I'm attaching a few pictures of my engine prep for the NCCC meet. I have already changed the fuel rail covers and put in the originals without the red letters. The bottom of the car is just as clean as the engine bay. I just have to remove the wheels and clean and polish the inside area.

You'll do well. The inside of the wheels is the area that burns many NCCC rookies. Good luck and have fun.

Ed, for a "Best of Show" I would agree with you 100%. However, in the Concours Prepared classes, one can only have 3 mods from factory before it falls into a modified class. So the competition is usually fair between the classes. The big plus I see in NCCC is that we don't need to wait 15+ years to enter a car.... Just sayin'

Ed, at my first NCCC show in Bristol, I was tied with a very nice Collector Edition and the chief judge checked both cars - the tiebreaker was the inside of the gas door and the shift boot. The other fellow had not even opened his gas door in his preparation, so I took the trophy.

If you want an anal retentive judging, go to a BMW show - they check holes and crevices with Q-tips. If they find anything they reinsert the Q-tip and leave it. Some cars look like porcupines.

Thanks Ed! I was an NCCC member in the 60's-80's and a member of the 1975 National Champion Fort Wayne Corvette Club. We did some shows but mostly participated in the competition events, autocross and track days at Mid Ohio, etc. I had PC and PB cars but once we ran SCCA A/P car at a local autocross and kept blowing the cones over with the Hooker sidemounts. Always enjoyed NCCC and Blue Bars. Good people. If you have a copy of the competition rules could you please post?

Bill, just wanted you to know that we placed second in the NCCC Meet. The guy who beat us by 3 points has been undefeated since 1995. I'm proud of the old girl, she did good.
