64 inner fender holes (grill mount) and various extra holes?

i am getting ready to paint my inner fenders, it seems like the grill mount is in the wrong spot? i see the holes for where the mounting brackets should go, but there appears to be an extra mount. This mount appears to be original, it had the aluminum rivits and on the back side of the rivit it still had the red primer over the head of the rivit. this is a early 64 convert w/air if that matters.


also by looking at the picture if the pass side inner fender can you tell if there were any added holes from previous owners that need to be patched?

is it correct that the 64 grill only uses 2 mounts, one on each side?

Only two total mounts on a 64, and that one looks like it it in the wrong position.

What Wayne said, the rest are mounted to the body as can be seen just below the brackets. Check the top center one since it is prone to brake.

Alan, Wayne.. Thanks! so you would agree that the 4 holes should be filled in? when i removed the inner fenders there were brackets mounted where the 4 holes are now but im bettin that at some point in its life it had a later grill installed requiring the extra brackets (and the brackets were held in with phillips screws and nuts), i just needed a second opinion.

on the other pic (the one where you can see my boots) do you see any extra holes? i already filled in a couple where there was a aftermarket fuel pressure regulator mounted.

The bracket that is mounted may be in the correct position. There have been holes drilled for the mounting of the 66-67 style grille.
