Re: 63 hard top question
Ed;
Where do you think there would be shims used? I also have a 63 with a hardtop which fits worse everytime I put it on, but a lot of my problem is with the doors sagging and in need of new hinge bushings - not real bad, but noticeable by me. I have a bushing kit and am just waiting for the time and help to do the job without messing something else up. i'm on my second set of door weather stripping and the top part has torn loose on the driver's side. I only put the hardtop on these days when I move and need to ship the car (once). Here in Florida they are not too practical, and I only put the convertible top up in the cool season.

Re: 63 hard top question
Stu,Harry, My reason for asking is when having my car judged I had the hard top wrench in the glove box with the bag and he said that I was missing some washers. I was thinking they were for the hard top for shimming?New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Re: 63 hard top question
Those two rubber washers are to be used when the hardtop isn't installed, between the heads of the (removed from the hardtop) hardtop hold-down bolts and the round stainless ferrules in the deck lid, as the water seal for those holes, so water doesn't leak through the ferrules into the rear compartment. They're shown in your Assembly Manual in section C07, sheet 6.00, item #23, and in UPC 14, sheet A8.00, #3827499 Washer, Roof Panel Mounting, "place in bag". They aren't used when the hardtop is in place, as the hardtop bolts are inboard of the weatherstrip - that's when they should be in the bag in the glove box. When the hardtop is off and the car is presented with the soft top, the washers should be used on the hardtop bolts that plug the holes in the ferrules on the deck lid. Many vendors sell little snap-in stainless plugs for those two ferrule holes - they're more convenient than using the hardtop bolts and washers, but they're not corrrect.- Top

Re: 63 hard top question
I was thinking about those washers that are missing in the bag,and believe they where for the seat height adjustments? I had remembered that the bag in my 72 had metal washers to adjust the seat height. they where a thick 5/16 black phosphate type.
What threw me is the bag in my 63 has a hard top wrench only, thats why I thought shims for the hardtop.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Re: 63 hard top question
Ah yes, the infamous bolts with the rubber tips designed for (I believe) 1/24th scale model cars, for the worth they have in protecting your deck. One slight contact with the deck and the tip breaks off exposing one heck of a good paint scaper.
