White Wall Width on 670x15 Firestone tires - 1960 Car

For some reason, I purchased repro Coker tires and ordered the 2-11/16" white walls. I was informed at the Lone Star Regional on Friday that the width should be 2-1/4" wide. I left my 58-60 Judging Manual & Guide in the car overnight. Can someone look in the reference book and see what it calls for?

Noland Adams states that the 1960 tires were uniform width at 2-9/16". It is too late to do anything about it now since Saturday morning the judges will start on my car.

    Joe,

According to the TIM & JG, the whitewall width 'varies from 2" to about 2 1/2"'.

Thanks Donald. Maybe the judges will have mercy on me; but probably not. After Saturday, it won' t matter as I will be finished with flight judging; back to just owning a driver. It was 18 monrhs of fun, challenges, anger & cursing, and a large amount of $$$$$$.

Regional judges did not deduct for my extra wide whitewalls. I achieved Top Flight!! The judges this year found 4-5 items per category that were not identified a year ago, but all but one were different judges from last year. If you ever want to discuss my flight judging results as it might pertain to your 1960, let me know.

I may take you up on a discussion. I have some ideas where I am going to loose points, but probably will also get many suprises. I'm hoping to get my engine and transmission and start it up in the next few weeks. I've worked out the last wiring problem. I had to order a new heater cover, the fiberglass part I was having trouble with. I knew it had been repaired by someone before me, but it would fit between the center console and the kick panel. I was able to compare it to a good part and had to order a replacement. I got a very good press-molded one from Paragon and it fits, but now I'm waiting on getting it painted.

Thank you George. Many hundreds of hours over the past 18 months. Probably should have spread it out over the 23 years I have owned the car, but flight judging was not on my list until 18 months ago. I plan to fix the items, most of the items, when the judging sheets arrive, but next year will be the Sportsman row so I can show off the power top (I hope it is still working in 12 months).

Joe, was operating your power top an Ops item? And how did that work out for you.

                  Joe,
The Sportsman Award is fun; I got one this year. Go for it; you do 2 Regionals and the rest is local Chapter Meets to get to the 20 points total. Have fun.

I had to display my hard top to obtain maximum points since my vinyl window is undated. The lack of date stamp cost me 26 of points last year; hard top deduct this year was around 3 or 4 points.

Donald, I forgot to answer your question. Since I displayed the hard top, the power top was not part of Ops.

                        Joe,

Congratulations on your Top Flight!! You've been very busy getting things sorted out. Well deserved!!

                        How did you do regarding:

                        -Trunk Lock lip?

                        -Glove Box lock?
(I replied to your thread last week about how to tighten the bezel but maybe you had already left)

No deduct on trunk lock lip
I was able to carefully open the seat divider lid lock during operations and it passed. I just discovered an article I had cut out from years ago on how to remove the lock tumbler and I just removed it. Once the lock tumbler is removed, The chrome bezel can be screwed out of the housing by using a pair of needle nose pliers. The bezel is octagon-shaped on the back side. The two square "ears" on the lock housing that fit into the lid notches are almost worn off and I did not help by spinning it one revolution last week. I am going to carefully file down the housing around the ears until the ears are more prominent.

I have tried numerous times to delete my PMs; no luck. I hit delete and then I get a dropdown box that indicates there was an error in execution. I will contact John Waggoner.
