1969 Big Block fan and clutch

    Hi,
I'm looking for a correct fan and clutch for my L 68 with A/C. I have what's think is the correct P/N 3937771 but I can't find the fan number. I've trolled through the AIM, archives and all the resto books I have. Can someone please post the correct blade number and if a July 69 build with C60 would have a 5 or 7 blade?
If anyone has these parts with dates that fit the build date I would be very interested in talking with you.
    Many Thanks
    Grahame

You require fan GM part #3955182. This is a seven blade fan. The part number and date code is found on one of the blades.

It's possible that some very early big blocks with C-60 were built with 5 blade fan GM #3888366. However, one built as late as yours, if not all, would definitely have had the 3955182.

The GM #3937771 is a correct fan clutch for your application.

With my 68 L36 having a 5 blade fan #3888366 for a mid production, I perked when you said only early 68's had the five blade fan. I backtracked the fan requirements in the 68 AIM, starting with UPC, C60, C2 on a 427 and it states [#2] uses a RPO L36 part. So when you go over to L36, A7 the fan is described as [#4] a PRODUCTION PART, so now that sends you back to the production section 6 A4 which calls for the 5 bladed fan [#7] #3888366. Am I off base here? The pictures even look correct in the drawings. However, using the 69 AIM does lead you to the 7 bladed fan #3955182 for a big block on UPC, C60, C2. For the clutch ASM it looks like the 68 and 69 AIM both call for the 427 C60 to use the L36 #3937771. Joe, also, I am in dire need of a #3919595 Low Blower Switch, in the center console, for a C60 68. You did a blog on it some years ago, about a guy who didn't want it and you did and got it. Do you know where there may be another????????

I think you're mixing up 1968 and 1969. My previous response was regarding 1969's which was the subject of the original poster's question. All 1968's used the 3888366 except, possibly, very early 1968 small blocks with C-60. The 3955182 was never originally used for 1968; it didn't even exist when they were built.

I do not recall the discussion regarding the 3919595 switch. I looked at my parts list and I don't see it but it is possible I do have it. Where, I don't know.

Thanks for setting me straight on the fan. I had a brain fa-- and took L68 for 68 in the initial thread. I'll give L.E.S. a call today.
That old thread of yours on the switch was dated Jan 31 2009, I think it was about or under "An Interesting Part". I found the old thread by just putting 3919595 in the search box.

In a 68 BB on a hot day who would need the low or med switch position for the AC anyway. As the switching kind of defaults to the high blower position who would care but a judge ops checking the car, so I'll just live without low or medium. Too cold --- open window, fat chance you would need to do that though..

OK, I looked up the thread and now I recall it and I recall the incident leading up to my buying it. I got that switch from a friend of mine in the Minneapolis area. He does not have anymore, though. Obviously, I must have it but I don't know where it is.

If your switch is not functional, I'll bet you could open this switch up by prying back the retaining tangs and carefully repairing it.

I'll try that, at least I have A/C in high. I'll find one some day.
