Question on AC Drier diameter - 71 BB

Did the factory A/C drier fit snug in the clamps? I bought a "correct" replacement for my 71, but it's about 1/8 too small for the clamps. The clamps are original. Are these replacements all the same, or should I look for a more correct one that's the right diameter. The clamps seem to be about 3" across.

I think that, even though they may come in different boxes, most of the driers are made by/for one company, Four Seasons

Yes, they fit quite snug in the clamps, not at all like the fit you pictured. Where did you get this one? Is it a functional replacement or a reproduction?

I got it from Amazon. ACDelco 15-1240 Air Conditioner Receiver and Dehydrator Assembly. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ls_o00_s00_i00

Even though the description says ACDelco, it has a sticker with the company name of Parker on it.

That will work fine, but is instantly recognizable as incorrect by its bottle shape. Originals are straight sided, as well as having a larger OD.

To solve the clamp slop problem, get yourself some 3M mounting squares and put some strips inside the clamps. Now, you may find that your top clamp is too high to mate with the fat part of the drier. Then you have to make an adapter to lower the top clamp mount.

If you are going for Top Flight and need an original, PM me.

If you are looking for a "correct" original drier, call Classic Auto Air in Florida. They are reconditioning the old driers and installing new dessicant.....then heli-arc welding them back together. They work fine and look original. A NCRS member named Jeff (Pace Car Jeff) also sells these in his store on Ebay. He used to get them reconditioned from Classic Air.......not certain who he uses now.

I'd like to find a functional replacement that fits. Is there a true ACDelco part vs this Parker one?

No, the current GM and AC-Delco replacement, GM #3046236 aka AC-Delco 15-1240, is all that's currently available from GM or Delco.

In order to find an original, you'd need to find an NOS GM #3012944 (or a rebuilt one as described by another poster).
