    Help for a new guy

Hi all. New to NCRS. Hoping to find out about my corvette. I purchased a 1968 about 3 years ago from CNV Corvette in AZ. Vin #194678S409915. Trying to find out really what I have. CNV stated it is a numbers matching car. It is in nice shape and a heck of alot of fun to drive. I have had some of the local guys from the local vet clubs briefly look at the car and they think it is done correctly but I really would like to find out what I have. Any info I could get would be great. Thanks

Looks like it was built in January 68. Please share some photos and jot down a few numbers that we may help you to decipher. Welcome aboard.

      George

Welcome. I own a July built 68 Coupe. Get yourself a 68/69 Technical Manual and Judging Guide (TM&JG) available from the store on this site and start going through it. Make notations in the book as you go along. When you think you know what you have, go to a chapter meet and have the car judged. The resulting sheets will fill in the blanks. You don't have to be a maniac about it. You'll find most if not all the people will offer constructive input. After that you can decide whether you want to search for that correct windshield door actuator bellows, or just drive for fun.

George, find your nearest local chapter and find out when they may have a chapter meet, and have the car flight judged. this will really give you a prospective of where you sits. its truly the best way to find out just how correct the car is. And then the fun fun begins if you want to persue bring it up to Top flite level. Good luck, Ed

Welcome George! This is a great forum to speak with other '68 owners and find solutions to many one year only problems. By the vin number on your '68, I would bet it is a convertible. As stated earlier, we would love to see some exterior, interior and engine photos.

Hey Guys, thanks for responding. Not very good with these computers, I'm an old guy of 59 and they confuse me. I'll try to figure out how to post some pictures. I think she looks good. And yes she is a convertable. She also has a 4 speed and is alot of fun to drive. I just checked the on-line store for the Tech Manual and as my luck would have it they are out of them.

Oh- by the way; every couple years take it for a chapter meet with BFG street radials----still makes top flight with a little rubber in the rear wheel wells.

The 67 in your VIN (fourth and fifth characters) is the body style code for a convertible. 37 would be a coupe. My 68 convertible was assembled in April, 1968, a little while after your car.

                    Cruise and enjoy.

The 1st 10,0000 '68's produced were all convertibles per John Hinckley, Corvette Plant Manager, St. Louis, at the time. Seems there was a problem with the T-Top design at the beginning of production

                        Terry -

Although I would have enjoyed that promotion at the time, I was actually a Senior Process Engineer on assignment from Chevrolet Production Engineering.

George welcome to NCRS and your purchase of a 1968 Corvette. According to your VIN, your Corvette was built in January 1968. Did you receive the 68's original warranty booklet that has the metal plate attached? If you did, there is valuable information on the metal plate. I have a 68 convertible built in February.

My #9643 is a coupe built on Jan 22. According to John, perhaps one of the earliest production line coupes assembled.
