    Fuel Filter Bracket for 63/64/65

Two fuel filter brackets were used during 63/64 depending upon engine size.

From the Oct 1, 1963 P&A Cat there appears to be a conflict in just what fuel filter bracket was used during 63/64 (possible 65 also - do not have 65AIM)

Does anyone know the differences between the 3825914 v 3834122 brackets??? See attached Group 3.890 photo and
    63 triva revisited

We at least know the 3834122 is chrome.
Function wise these do the same thing so why have two parts doing the same function?

Alan -- my '65 AIM continues those two part #'s with the ....914 used on the L75 (300hp) and the ...122 is used on L76 and L84. A note on the bracket part # for L76 states: "bracket attaching parts are the same and assemble same as UPC L75.

The '65 TIM&JG says the L75 is cad or zinc plated, whereas the L76 / L84 is chrome plated.

      Wayne -
That follows the same logic as the 63-64 AIMs It would appear that GM did have two brackets,
a cad/zinc for little motors and the chrome for the HP's.
      Thanks

        Alan,

I think your parts book is in error.

As mentioned, the 3825914 is a zincad plated bracket and the 3934122 is chrome.

From the start of 1963 production to somewhere around Nov/Dec of 1962, ALL the brackets used for 63 cars were zincad plated. No chrome brackets prior to that time. By 1 January 1963, a new chrome bracket (3834122) entered production for 340 and 360 HP cars. The zincad bracket (3825914) was used for all 300 HP cars through the end of 63 production.

For the 64 model year, it's the same as late 63. Chrome for 365/375 HP and zincad for 300 HP.

Unfortunately, your parts book shows that ALL 63's used the zincad (3825914) bracket. That's probably carry over from an early 63 printing of the book.

Re: Fuel Filter Bracket for 63/64/65

Michael that all seems to track.
The 63 L84 item #4 calls out "Part Numbers & Installation Same as RPO L75-L76" with the last change date of 10-15-62
From that note it sounds like (assumption) that only the one, 3825914, existed. Then . .

The 63 L-75/76 item #11 calls for 3825914 for L-75 AND 3834122 for L-76 with last change date of 11-23-62

Those dates and the odd note of L84 #4 both fit in with your change date.

Also in a previous post, Loren Lundberg states only the 3825914 existed for 63 in his P&A Cat dated Oct 62, again that fits.
My later P&A (Oct 63) and Loren P&A (Nov 63) both display the same errors.

Does anyone have a P&A where the 63 is listed correctly???

Alan, The 3832122 bracket that was sold over the counter in the blue, white, black box is one crude fuel filter bracket. I mean the filter won't even fit in it as it's not round. The plating on it is as crude as could be. Very deep grain to the metal as the part was probably never polished. I have one on my 63, the LWC and used to think it was the real deal when in fact I learned that it was just another poc service replacement part. The real deal 3832122 is quite smooth and pretty like a typical repro. Or is it. The real deal 63 3832122 has a shorter "tongue" to it where it bolts to the adapter stud. But that didn't last long as the short tongue thru the fuel lines out of alignment.
Meanwhile parts books are just a guide for us as you well know. It used to irk me in the old days that Chevy listed everything for the 63 when in fact we know a ton of parts for that car are one off.
As Michael said the two different part numbers are just for the plating of the part.
Real deal brackets have a peculiar logo on them as we discussed previously. At least some of them do. At Corvette Carlisle I picked up a really rough alligator skin type chrome '122 bracket in the original beat up box and was surprised it had no logo.
