Passing of WNY Member Jim Frakes

It is with great sadness that I am letting you know that Jim passed away yesterday with his wife, Nancy by his side. He will be greatly missed by the Western New York Chapter.

sorry to hear that as jim was a member of "corvette club of western pa". when i knew him back in the 60s. he was a good artist and did the covers for our corvette club newsletter "the flying fiberglass". he was the member who came up with the name "flying fiberglass". i saw jim a few years ago when our corvette club was doing laps at watkins glenn. jim now can be swapping corvette racing stories with his CCWP friends ed lowther,ed myers,ed smith, don yenko and donna mae mimms. GOD SPEED JIM !

            Gene:

            This is sad news.

Jim and Nancy befriended my wife and I at the National in Monterey at a time when we knew virtually no one in NCRS. We had a great time together, in particular, driving down the Pacific Coast Highway to Big Sur. Thereafter, for years, I seemed to bump into him routinely at Carlisle. It was always a great pleasure to do so.

He was a gentleman and a true Corvette enthusiast. I miss him.

Re: Passing of WNY Member Jim Frakes

Jim was a car hobbyist for all the right reasons - he enjoyed them, wanted to know more about their history, the whys, the hows and the stories of what happened and when. He dug out production data on the building of 1956s that remains the best example today. He showed up at one of our Sedona Regionals because the timing "was right" and he was "tired of looking at postcards of the western US". He was a class act. Somehow it's fitting that he owned his '56 for fifty-six years. RIP, friend.

Jim was a good friend and true enthusiast - he helped me with many details years ago when I did my first '57 restoration. RIP, Jim.

He is one I'll forever respect as a genuine ambassador to the Corvette hobby.

Jim was always willing to lend advice on early Corvettes. He will be missed in our hobby.
