Re: 94 to 95 Air Filter

    Hi Ed and guys,
I have '96 CE (Ed and Jim) knows my car at the NCRS regionals in Kissimmee,FL. My question is my air filter orginal reads AC DELCO A1097C 6C06D lost a point for dirt, I bought a replacement from Ed and the markings are AC DELCO A1097C 5M16M can this filter be used for the NCRS Nationals in VA without losing any points? When was this filter made based on the codes?
    Thanks,
    Paul Manobianco (55025)

Re: 94 to 95 Air Filter

Paul, the JM does not say that the code is inspected and judged. To my knowledge, what they are looking for is that the filter is year correct, which yours is. All 96 used the filter with AC Delco A 1097C. I think late production 95's also use that filter.

Paul that's interesting, according to Pat's decoding system, "M" would not correlate to a month of the year. The highest letter would be "L" for December.

Re: 94 to 95 Air Filter

Paul and Ed, the system that I am trying to developed for a date code on the air filters has not been approved by any NCRS Judging Member. It has been under development and to date it is only an estimate. All the original air filters that I have found with what appears to be a date code pretty much fall in line to the build date. I do not have examples for every month so I do not know if a character is dropped for one month, e.g. the I not to be confused with a 1, which would make the M stand for December.

The air filter that you are discussing with Ed is the only one so far that has a M for a first character.

Paul you stated that the code after A1097C on your air filter is 6 C 06 D. This could be translated to 6-1966, C-March, 06-6th day of the month and D for the day shift.

This would put your build date somewhere around March-May 1996.

Paul if you could, please let me know the build date of your 96 and if you have a photo of the air filter.

Once again, this attempt to establish a date code is under development because I do not have enough samples to be positive.

          Thanks

Pat, I hope the photo comes out I haven't done this before. My build date on my car is 6/96. This air filter is not the orginal I bought it from Ed.

Paul the photo came out. I think Pat wanted a picture of the one you used in Kissimmee. BTW, that's a great looking filter.

Ed, you are correct. Paul, I would like a photo of the one that has the code of 6C06D that you had in your Corvette at Kissimmee. That would be a good match for a 6/96 build date.

                    Hi Ed/Pat,

I figure I'd resurrect this post and add my findings. The first pic is an original filter from a 1990 with less than 6K. The other pic is a NOS service filter that I recent purchase off of eBay.
