    1954 -- clip(s) on transmission vacuum line?

On my '54, there is a steel vaccum line that runs from the rear vacuum port on the top of the intake manifold down the left rear side of the engine, across the bottom of the engine between the rear of the oil pan and the front of the transmission, then down the right side of the transmission to its termination there. On my car, this steel line has no clips to support it anywhere and it is an obvious source of rattles as can vibrate and hit the rear of the oil pan. Should there be one or more clips to support this line? If so, what kind of clip and where does it (do they) attach? An answer to any part of the question would be helpful.

    Thanks,

    Pete

I agree...found no clips on my early 54. Can say though as I routed the steel lines I did a little adjusting to the pre-bent pipe I purchased to make sure there was some clearance between the area behind the oil pan and ahead of the transmission adapter plate. Worked well...I was more concerned with the routing of the exhaust system under the oil pan over to the pass side.

BTW. I am just finishing up the frame and drivetrain and very close to initial start up...
      Good Luck Pete.

Thank you both, Chris and John. Okay, I won't add a clip and I will carefully bend the pipe so it won't easily bump the back of the oil pan.

        Regards,

Agree, no clip in this area.

The clip under the front carb that Chris mentions was not found by me on either an unrestored 2331 mile or 3040 mile 54. But I have seen it on a 53 and in a factory photo of a 54 engine. All-in-all I can't say it was always there.
