    LT1 Calipers

I hate to ask this question, because I know it is in the judging manual, but both it and my AIM are packed in a box somewhere. I've ordered a new judging manual but it has not arrived yet. Question, are the brake calipers supposed to be semi-gloss black or gray? 1971 LT1

Low gloss black, and painted before machining, so the flat spot for bleeder will be bare metal. I believe there is a flat spot also for locating other assembly operations on each end as well, but it has been a long time since I looked. Paul O does chassis & exterior a lot so he may have a better take than I.

      Mike,

TIM & JG says brake calipers were low gloss black, except those small areas where machining occurred, those are natural.

            Mike

It is as Terry stated low gloss black less gloss then the master cylinder brake booster but more then the frame. In Patrick's photo you can see the machined areas and there are more a small list is the flat areas on the top of the calipers the mount bolts and caliper half bolts areas the bleeder and supply hose areas around the pistons and the caliper half mating surface. The best way to determine this if it is cast finish paint it if it is machine flat zero paint. There also could be inspection paint markings most normal is a white painted slash on the top of the calipers and there could also be other type inspection colors.

I beleave they were dipped at the foundry with low gloss paint to stop rust till they were machined.

Just my 2 cents. The majority of Bowtie/Survivor cars I have seen do not have any markings, but like Paulie O. said when there are markings they are usually white or blue.
