    Carburetor Restorer

Just wanted to pass along to the membership about a restorer I have used in the past and just recently used again. His name is Eric Jackson and his company is Vintage Musclecar in Ohio. He restored the Holley on my 69 Camaro and it is still beautiful.

I am restoring a 66 L72 for a fellow and the original 3247 was old and tired so, I sent it to Eric. From the time I sent it til the time I received it was about a week. Sorry for the iPhone pics. As always, his work is impeccable...

    Mark:

I agree. Eric does excellent work. I have recommended him to many folks who need their carb rebuilt/restored. He is my personal choice for this work.

Does he also true up the base plate and body and rebush the throttle shafts if needed?

Try Chris's Carb. Shop in Dayton Ohio. I've used him with success twice and so have other members of the Chapter.

I can't find his card, Google him.

          Good Luck

How much did he charge for the Holley rebuild with cosmetics?

One fuel inlet fitting was missing and the fast idle cam unloader pin was broken. Both of the metering blocks were warped and they were repaired. The complete R & R including shipping with insurance was $562.80.

To say this bad boy was a turd when I sent it to Eric, is a gross understatement.

Eric is VERY well-known in the hobby, and has been for many years; perfection from him is to be expected.

                    Frank,

I posed your question(s) to Eric. Here is his response...

"I true up all three mating surfaces on a Holley--both metering surfaces and the throttle body mounting surface on the main body. I true up both sides of the throttle body and the accelerator pump cover as well.
The metering block(s) and/or metering plate are/is checked and addressed as necessary. On 4160 carbs, the old original zinc metering plates are usually replaced with new aluminum components since the zinc castings won't stay flat even if you do straighten them. Metering blocks are flattened as necessary.

The throttle bodies are bushed on an "as-needed" basis, which is why I do not include the cost of bushing the throttle body in the base price--many carbs do not need it, and I don't want to charge for a service if it's not being performed.

Once the carb is finished, it is live tested on a running engine with a wide band O2 meter to verify everything is functioning correctly before it's boxed up to be shipped back to the customer."

Thanks for doing that. It tells me a lot about his operation. I'll put his address in my file and give him a try next time I need a major rebuild....

I would also like to add that he is totally confortable in dealing with overseas restorers (and payments). He did my tri carbs with perfect communication and packaging.

I would also recommend Eric, he restored my '69 L-71 carbs which were in rough shape from prior owners. His communication is fantastic, and he is very open and honest with you when he discusses repairs. Very thorough and his work is outstanding. I would highly recommend him if you are looking to get your carbs redone.
