1953-54 early short exhaust tips -- material? design? pictures?

I want to replace the incorrect, non-original style short exhaust tips on my '54 #814. I'm looking at a variety of reproduction tips. I see that there are major differences in design and maybe materials among the repros. My understanding is that the original tips were made of polished stainless steel with square cut ends (not rolled). I see some repros advertised as "chrome tips." Some are partly bright and partly painted. The design of the rear flange area differs among the repros. So, were the originals stainless or chromed? What did they actually look like--anyone have pictures of an original? Any recommendations on the supplier that has the most correct tips?
