ECTA Wilmington Mile Queen City Chapter Road Tour

As noted by Steve Barrett in another post the NCRS Cincinnati Chapter is organizing a road tour from Cinci. to Wilmington, Ohio to watch some land speed record racing.

The event runs this Saturday and Sunday Sept. 29 & 30th at Wilmington Air Park at Wilmington.

The event is a standing start mile (about 5280 feet) and is run on a 9000 foot long runway. So basically it is a 1 mile drag race with speed not time determining the winner. Vehicles are run one at a time, in competitition with the clock.

One of the Forum contributors Dave Gray, with the help of Mike McCagh, has run here and might be back to crack the 200 MPH barrier.

In addition this weekend will be having a special motorcycle competition.

Check thier website http://www.ecta-lsr.com/ for more details.

See Steve Barretts posting for more information and road tour starting location.

      Rick,
      The racing is pretty interesting.
As far as Corvettes go, if you have a fixed roof car I believe you can run but the top speed might be limited to 135 MPH. Convertible Corvettes need lots of safety stuff.
As the speed goes up so do the safety requirements. At 150 mph I believe roll cages and fire supression might be required.
My son has my rule book (available from ECTA for $10.00) so I can't check the rules for you.

well, I have full-car fire suppression system as I have been known to do some road course tracks and strips - but still a long distance to go for some fun! (VBG)

Bruce, We cant make it to the next Ohio Mile event. We expired our engine at Bonneville this year.
We will be back at Wilmington next April with more ponies to crack 200.

            Dave,
Good to hear from you and sorry your not making it to Wilmington.
I read that you had engine problems at Bonneville and look forward to seeing you next year here in Ohio.

I believe if you are current or ex-military, admission is free.

For those attending but not driving a Corvette, bring a bicycle. This is a very large piece of property and there's a lot to see. I've taken a bike in the past and I was able to cruise everything from the staging lanes to the pits with minimal effort. Remember this track is nearly 2 miles long. The results of every pass are also broadcast on CB channel #1, so get your old CB out of the basement so you'll be informed.

Well it's less than 24 hours until the Queen City Tour to the Wilmington Mile. The weather forcast looks great for a fall tour through the Ohio country side. Come join us, blow the dust of that Corvette thats been sitting in the corner of the Garage. Meet some new Corvette buds and fellow gear heads. Put matching numbers, and bolt heads out of your mind for an afternoon of driving enjoyment and SPEED.
