    Filler Boot Drain Hose

Over the weekend I lowered my spare tire tub and the drain hose from the filler boot was tucked into it and as it turns out the hose was loose and came completely out of the car. I've read the archives regarding removing the filler boot which seems simple enough but once I reconnect the hose is it possible to thread it back through and get it routed properly with the gas tank in place?

    Thanks,

    Glen

    Glen,
It is not a difficult job at all. It goes over the top of the gas tank and down behind the bumper brace on the right (passenger) side and down inside the bumper. On my '69 there is a "tie" that holds it to the bumper brace and I'm not sure that it's there on '70-'72 cars but that should be indicated in the AIM. Hope this helps.

Yes the tie is present (or supposed to be) on 1970-1972 Corvettes. It should be shown in the appropriate year AIM as well.

Like Jeff says about his '69, the '70-'72 cars had the routing through the bumper (inboard/vertical), extending slightly below the bumper. I believe my early '72 has the tie. I'd like to note that at least on my car, there's a spring inside the drain hose to keep it from collapsing. I'll take and post a photo if it would help. Hope this helps!

          Hi Glen,
On my mid-January built 71 there were 2 ties (as shown in the AIM) holding it to the bumper brace. For some reason on my car one is 'facing' right and one left. I don't know if that's typical.... can't see that it matters to the hose. You can just see the end of the hose at the very bottom of the picture. The hose really didn't seem to enter the back side of the vertical part of the bumper, but just laid against the rear valance panel.
          Regards,
          Alan

Please disregard the 'vinyl' fuel line... I'd used it to drain the gas out of the tank.

The 2 tie wraps on the bumper support rod are the norm that is seen we have also seen the hose as shown on Alan's car and the other method routed into the bumper and exiting out the bottom of the bumper. Both methods should be considered normal.

              Glen:

As others have said, this job is a "piece of cake". Difficulty is "one wrench"

You should have no problems if you take your time. If the rubber drain line is very old and brittle/hard you might want to buy a replacement. DR REBUILD has an excellent one.

He also carries the spring and a great tutorial on how to get it inside the hose. Takes 2 minutes and works great.

Glen, As is typical, Alan is correct. When I re-read Alan's tip that there were 2, I wondered if I had it right or not. Knowing that Paul judged my car recently, I figured I know it if I only had one. When I got home from work, I checked mine. Sure enough, I had installed 2 ties when I re-did the car.

I took/attached a photo of the drain hose extending below the bumper too while I was there.

                    Re: Filler Boot Drain Hose

Thanks to everyone for the advice and the photos. I've ordered a new hose and ties from Dr. Rebuild and will get this taken care of.

                    Thanks again,

                    Glen
