Inner control shaft forged 3736355

Does anyone know when the inner control shaft for the lower A-arm that is forged 3736355 was made and what application? It was was on my 59 when I took apart the suspension. it looks nearly identical to the Corvette inner control shaft forged 3691468, except slightly thinner I think. The one for 53-62 Corvette is grp. 6.169 part 3693459. I looked in my '59 parts book, a '68 and an '82 parts book and don't see this forging mentioned... They all mention the one forged 3691468 as being for Corvette, but I don't have the part number for it...

Any ideas? Is it a really early forging or a later forging, or something else entirely? It appears just like a Corvette inner control shaft except for the forging/casting number...

Shaft GM PART #3693459 (FORGING #3691468) is not applicable to 1953-62 Corvettes; it is applicable to 1953-55 Corvettes. 1956-62 Corvettes used shaft GM PART #3737597. Some references show this shaft to also use forging #3691468. However, my guess is that the forging number changed for the 3737597 shaft and that number is 3736355. It's also possible that 3736355 was an ALTERNATE forging number used after 1955.

my mistake.. my 59 parts book shows 56-59 (62) as part 3737597, but it says the forging number is still 3691468. Maybe the bushings changed... And that's the same in the 68 and 82 parts books... So maybe it's undocumented you're thinking? Maybe the book is wrong on the later forging number. The shafts look to me to be original to the car. The bolts were rusted up pretty good when I took them out.

The information in the "item description" column of the P&A catalogs is sometimes inaccurate and anachronistic. In this case, I believe the problem was created when the 56-62 shaft replaced the 53-55 shaft for SERVICE. At that time the description of the 53-55 shaft was incorporated into the description of the 56-62 shaft.
