I'm looking for a good source for 1965 steel wheels (at a reasonable price!). Any suggestions?

Re: Source for '65 steel wheels
Be very careful on e-bay. A well known seller (or two) has/have been known to promote almost any 15" black rim as "from a Corvette". There's also wheels that look identical, except for the stamped dates inside and by the valve stem hole. Originals had no markings by the valve stem hole. Other GM Service Parts have later dates, and are marked near the valve stem hole. I can send photos later. Send me an e-mail address.https://MichiganNCRS.org

Re: Source for '65 steel wheels
Good points Tom. One should always research what they're buying. Once the OP knows what to look for, he'll be able to easily find the correct wheels. I recently bought a correctly dated 65 wheel for $125 including shipping. They're on E-Bay quite often. Ignore those that want thousands of $$$$ for a set. Those never sell and are not an indication of what they're actually worth.- Top

Re: Source for '65 steel wheels
Also, it has been discussed the originals are welded in construction and some S/R wheels are rivited. I own a set that's rivited with the GM stamp by the lug nut holes and no markings by the valve stem. I can't report the dates inside as tires are mounted.- Top

Re: Source for '65 steel wheels
Years ago I owned an "early" 1965 Corvette wheel (15 X 5 1/2 JK) dated "12 64" that was riveted. There was some kind of sealer on the rivet heads to prevent tubeless tires from leaking. The wheel was identical to my other dozen or so original 1965-1966 wheels with various dates except for the rivets. I don't see how 1965-1966 wheels can be confused with other 15" GM wheels as the 5 1/2" width is rather unique (except for the 1963-1964 Corvette wheels) and they do not have any hub cap "nubs". IN 1980 I bought 5 GM service wheels (GM # 3869156) and all 5 were stamped with a date code near the valve hole.
