Sometimes, after long service, the counter shaft bore in the front of the case will become "elongated" or "egg-shaped". When this occurs, a leak will occur. The only positive and durable way to address this is to have the case bushed. This is difficult because the amount of material between the counter shaft bore and the front bearing bore is quite small. However, there are a few guys that have become adept at doing this. I'm not saying this is the source of the leak problem but it could be the source of the problem.
