    58 (Late) to 60 Hardtop Clarification(s)

I am finally at a point in my life so that I can restore a 58 basketcase that I purchased ten years ago. At first I only wanted to make a driver out of her but have since changed my mind as I have several other corvettes to drive. With this change of heart I want to make sure things are correctly done as this is a hardtop only car for points. I don't want to waste money and effort by not doing the correct thing the first time. So, this brings me to the hardtop I am self-restoring which came with this car but had fallen off the car while being trailored (before my time--I didn't do it).

According to my 4th Edition 58-60 TIM/JG the correct top for my May 28, 1958 build would have a top normally associated with the 59-60 style 1-piece lower rear SS frame assembly--hence, late 58-60 top. I do have this later style design and side windows looked original and had date of Jan 60. Looks exactly like the TIM/JG illustration (Sec 4, pg 31). But, I became confused when I read Sec 16A regarding "1958 hardtop side receptacle brackets for hold down bolts were chrome castings approx 3/8" thick; 59-60 used bright metal stampings approx 1/8' to 3/16' thick". Is the following hold down bracket photo the bracket that I need?

I have other issues and photos but lets just start with this bracket right now. If I am suppose to have a "thicker cast bracket" what does it look like?

By the time I get an answer my kids might be taking my driver's license away--THEN HOW AM I GOING TO DRIVE IT! I am actually okay just hoping a little drama might help. Where can I get an answer or what am I doing wrong?

Have you tried asking the question over at the Corvette forum? May get someone knowledgeable there.

Stephen, thanks for ideas. Have thought of consulting with Glassworks but they are in the business of making a profit even though I know they would help. Considered trying the Corvetteforum but have always felt this site is suppose to be the authority on such restoration and judging matters--eventually, subject matter expert will probably respond. Unfortunately, I am trying to acquire some broken pieces right now so that I can work on restoration of body and top now. So, I am glad you responded and hope any future information is information you and others need to know too.
