Seeing Lawrence Shaw's post earlier today reminded me of this question I wanted to put to you carb experts.
Thumbnail below of a spare original List 2818_3A3 (for '64-5 L76, or '65 L79); baseplate has 8 holes that have corresponding threading in the main carb body. As you can see, only 6 screws are present -- I have no idea if I replaced them in the original positions. Current configuration shows two empty holes are in the fore/aft centerline. Is this correct ?
Checked a service List 3124 (for a 396) I have and it has screws in all 8 baseplate holes.
The photo in L.S.'s thread shows 2 holes without screws (like mine), but in the inboard/outboard holes, and his was built by someone who knows carbs.
