I do not think the 'other' auction houses quote the final sale with the premiums included? Does anyone know?- Top

Re: BJ "vegas pretty bad...
Hello;
Unless we have total knowledge of the car and someone with eyes on the vehicle at the event is it possible to bid/buy a car, any car, based on a 2 dimensional TV picture ?
Experience has taught me the vehicles look, and are, totally different in person as a opposed to on a TV screen. Even when your at an auction watching the car live, and on the screen, offers different opinions.
Not offering an opinion of auctions or auctioneers doing their job.
Just my 2 cents.

I know the Russo/Steele as well as RM and Gooding and Company includes the buyers permium in their results. Mecum sales results reflects the hammer price.- Top

Re: BJ "vegas pretty bad...
That's a pretty good 2 cents Roy. But I do think you have to remember that the final prices you are quoting are not what the seller realizes, that would be, IIRC, about 20% less than your quotes, and add transport, etc. To me, that puts the three NCRS cars in a bargain price range. And in my opinion, whenever the Franken-'Vettes that have been heavily modified from original with all sorts of jumbled, non-original parts, sell for more than real cars, I would call that too high, no matter how much money it took to modify them. But that's just me. Overall, I think the quality of the cars at 'Vegas BJ was way below what they are known for, and perhaps that is why I noticed the hype and circus atmosphere more than usual. Then again, it was 'Vegas.Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top

Can't disagree with any of that Roy, well said. And I do like that term "restoration motor", it really is very descriptive and understandable. Is that a new distinction from NOM or restamp?Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top

Re: BJ "vegas pretty bad...
Michael,
This is not the time or place to discuss ethics or semantics. I have used the term restoration motor for many years. To me the term restoration motor conveys the impetus of what has happened, the car was not thrown away because something happened to the original motor. I consider a restoration motor exactly what the term implies a motor that was sourced/built during the process of restoration.- Top

I agree, wasn't trying to start another conversation. It is just that is the first time I had heard the term and I do think it is appropriate in many circumstances, it should be used more often, IMO.Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top
