For flight judging is it better to have a A1097C replacement filter (Ecklers) made in china which is all I can find or the orginal one with some black marks (10,700 miles) on it. I've even checked NOS parts, and the Chevy dealer parts dept. and still replacement air filter come out of China. I found a orginal filter for a 1993 on ebay for $110.00??? I need some good advice please.

Almost always, but check your score sheets, there are more points assigned to originality than to condition. Thus an original part will usually score better even if in used condition. Many times NOS parts deviate from the assembly line part anyway. That is why I get a chuckle from those folks who trumpet that their car was restored with NOS parts. Very often those NOS parts are no better, and sometimes worse, than reproduction parts, regardless of the country of origin.Terry- Top

Re: 1996 air filter flight judging
Paul,
Having been through the same type of incident. On the judging sheet you are deducted 10 points for originialty and the same for condition. For my 93 I bought a 12,000 mile, used AC1097C that appeared to be used. At national judging I received no deducts for originialty a 1 point for condition. I did the math and the cost of the used filter was 50.00 in 2009, from a private party. They are out there. Talk to the C-4 judges, after you have been to your first chapter or regional, maybe they know of a person who has a used original. Hi John, hows your Ruby.- Top

Re: 1996 air filter flight judging
I bought a couple of the AC Delco filters (look exactly like Ed's pictures) on GMPartsDirect a couple of years ago. I see that they still list them for $20.86 + $12.95 shipping. They are listed as GM Part Number 19244111. Perhaps Joe Lucia can comment on the genealogy of '96 Corvette air filter element GM part numbers.'69 Blue/Blue L36 Vert w/ 4-Spd
