    1960 Speaker Wire Connections

I broke two wires loose from the speaker when I was installing the power top dash switch. I am not sure where the green wire that comes off the transformer should be soldered. Secondly, I am not sure where the black wire should be soldered.

I suspect that the green transformer wire goes to the center post and the black wire goes to the right post. Can anyone confirm where the solid green wire and the black wire are soldered?

John, I believe it will help. Please confirm if I am seeing the following:
green wire from top of transformer goes to the center terminal
green speaker wire goes to the left terminal
black wire goes through the hole in the terminal board and solders to the terminal on the right

Joe, I believe you are correct in your assumptions after looking at yours and mine side by side.

That is the way I connected it and it works. I need to take a short course in how to solder; I am the worst. It beads up and then rolls off what I am trying to solder. Then if I get it hotter, it runs off. I was able to melt enough blobs of solder to make the wires stick. Thanks for the photo, that was the key.

Did you use a little flux before heating and applying the solder?

Solder won't flow unless the materials are very clean. Old car - you have corrosion for sure. Try sanding the terminals with some sandpaper first. Get both the wire and the terminal to flow solder before you try to solder them together. That way you wont melt the insulation or damage anything else with the heat. Make sure you have good electrical solder - 60-40 or 63-37 are the best alloys to use. 63-37 is the best as it is eutectic. It goes directly from liquid to solid with no plastic range. Solder and liquid flux should be available at your local Radio Shack store. If the wire is long enough, cut is back an inch or so. That will get you clean copper.

p.s. If you haven't already guessed, I have a lot of experience in soldering.

I use Radioshack brand 60/40 light duty rosin core solder. I probably needed to clean the part that I was going to solder. Thanks for the tips on soldering; will use them in the future.
