Big Block Air Cleaner Assemblies, 400 HP and 435 HP

Is there a difference between the air cleaner set ups for a 1967, 1968 and 1969 427 (both 400 and 435 HP)? If so what are they?

Going entirely by GM parts books, (Oct '67 thru Jan '70), they use the same part # 3423757 for '67 thru '69 3x2BC, ie. for both the L68 and L71, the '67 being without A.I.R. The '67 with K19 is # ....758.

The air cleaner base, top, screen, and foam are the same for all 3 years. The exception is 1967 cars equipped with the smog pump. They use a different base.

Although the base is the same the flame arrestor setup changed over the years. In 68 and 69 it is attached to the air cleaner base, in 67 it was attached to the valve cover. The air cleaner to valve cover hoses is different as well to match.

Thank you. I recently purchased an original unrestored 435 car and want to ensure that all components are as they left the factory. I need to get the AIM from NCRS so i don't ask too many questions....

Make sure to look for the proper AC markings on the underside of the top, shown here.

by all means get the aim and any other restoration data you can, BUT continue to ask questions as many on this board and the ncrs have experience and knowledge books can't match. I would hope all members would take any questions as a compliment not a bother. congrats on having a piece of history.

Check the metal screen that holds the filter. I beleave it has only 3 holes in the screen & the repos have 5.

Here's a comparison of a '64 air cleaner screen with a late '69; both originals. Same hole size and mesh size (forgot to measure dia. of hole), so it appears they used the same screen stock, just cut to a different width.

I agree but the repo people must have looked at the wider one & made a 5 hole to fit the 67
