Solid Axle Dog Bone Rims - Plastic/ Rubber Inserts?

Hi Guys,

See the below picture. I have several of these inserts that go in solid axle dog bone rims. I was told the purpose of them was to keep rocks out of bouncing around behind the hubcap.

Anyhow, can someone tell me what years these were used on. Also an approximate value if anyone knows.

They were used on 1956-1958 Corvettes. I'm not sure about the earlier cars. Starting in 1959, the hubcaps had slots so small stones would not be trapped.

As to value: how much would someone pay for something that can't be seen when installed and is readily available at the local NAPA store in the form of vaccume tubing?

Neat to see originals. Anyone know if they balanced the tire after the stone fillers were inserted?
