New to a PG car - this one has been poorly restored so I'm fixing some of the problems. One has to do with the vacuum for the distributor and the vacuum modulator valve. The valve was connected to the front of the AFB (300HP) and the distributor had a short hose going nowhere. I've got the correct setup for the distributor but the AIM pictures are unclear re: the vacuum modulator. I see that the steel line (from the trans) should be routed behind the distributor and the hose connected ????. It almost appears it would tee into the vacuum advance hose. The JG says the hose goes to the intake manifold but mine has no holes or fittings - I believe it's the correct intake based on history, numbers, and dates. Any help appreciated.

Re: 1963 PG vacuum modulator hose
A correct 63 intake manifold does not have a fitting for vacuum. The correct vacuum fitting in the front of the carburator should have a steel pipe that swings around and runs parrell to the carb. When it ends you should have a hose attaching and running to the vacuum advance. With a power glide transmission there should be a tee in the middle of this hose and the transmission connects there. You should be able to find pictures of this setup in the AIM or the shop manual.- Top

Re: 1963 PG vacuum modulator hose
Section M35, sheet 4.00, View "A" in the Assembly Manual shows the modulator pipe having an integral tee connection for the distributor vacuum advance, and a hose connecting the front of it to the pipe that runs to the front of the carburetor. This changed for '64 when the modulator pipe was redesigned to connect to a vacuum fitting on the intake manifold.- Top

Re: 1963 PG vacuum modulator hose
John - rechecked the AIM and I see the View A that I had somehow missed before. I am surprised that they don't call out an actual "tee" for the hose in the parts list. Anyway, I'll just use a generic plastic one from the local parts store. Or are you saying my metal modulator pipe has had the tee cut off?- Top

I believe so, or it might have been shortened if the soldered tee broke off. Photos below are of a '64 Powerglide, but it has the '63 modulator line with the integral tee as shown in the '63 Assembly Manual.

Re: 1963 PG vacuum modulator hose
From my old '63 300HP PG coupe. Note the clip to hold the pipe at manifold.
The extra small vac hose at carb base was for aftermarket AC. Incorrect clamp on PCV.
