Looking for clarification on the valve cover reinforcements for my 67 BB. I know the bolts used where the plug wire grounds are attached are unpainted, but what about the reinforcements, are they also unpainted? Thanks.

...except when the guy on the line at St. Louis that installed the spark plug wire ground and replacement bolt accidentally re-installed the reinforcement upside down. I would always assume that the guy that did my car got all of them right side up.
1968-70 big block guys don't have to worry about this; reinforcements were not painted with chrome valve covers. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 67 valve cover reinforcements
On original 1971-72 I have noticed occasionally the reinforcements are painted. I suspect they reused the painted reinforcements on occasion. Perhaps some bean counter thought it less expensive for some of the low-priced help to occasionally sweep the floor and put the discarded reinforcements in a bin for re-use. Could this have happened earlier? I suspect so, but the 1968-69 chrome rocker covers don't allow me to know.Terry- Top

Re: 67 valve cover reinforcements
I think they reused them most of the time. There would only be the ones that they attached the braided grounds to. I think they used new screws though.65 350 TI CONV 67 J56 435 CONV,67,390/AIR CONV,70 454/air CONV,

Re: 67 valve cover reinforcements
On 67's, they re-used the existing (painted) reinforcements, with new zinc-plated screws.- Top
