    Low Mile 69 L89

First show after being found in the basement of a home in PA. 6100 miles and some great options...

I've seen this car up close as I am friends with the owner. Words cannot describe this automobile. It is out of this world! Probably the best unrestored Corvette there is....

I agree David-- nice car. So is the blue/blue small block behind it. A few more miles on the blue car -- something like 20K. The owners of both cars were nice enough to let me use both cars in my Advanced Judging Seminar on Saturday, but sadly I couldn't get either to the lift. That would have been nice because both are within 1000 cars of each other and both are real side exhaust cars. We will have to wait for Hampton and the BowTie process. I will try to get both for my AJS there. Maybe I will be able to get them up side by side on those lifts. Oh joy! Be still my beating heart. The owner of the blue car does knees, and I will need a cardiologist. Oh well nothing is perfect. And remember "There are no Corvette virgins!" and you can quote me on that.

Now you guys know why I do the AJS rather than judge. I get to play with the "real deal" Corvettes. Oh and I had a 1986 that was one of the first C4s built -- a Crossed Flags car. It had 1982 dated parts on it. Built March of 1983. And a five star BowTie 1966 red/red leather convertible, oh and BTW a BB too. That ought to make the day of all the midyear BB guys. And a 1954 that jut passed PV and a 1962 that came for Sportsman that was very nice. There were some astounding cars at AL Tuna (as Mark puts it). And just to make me feel good; four 1970s for flight judging. I can't remember the last time I saw four 1970s at a meet. And IIRC three of them were unrestored engine compartments. I didn't look at the other parts of the 1970 cars, I didn't have time, and had to leave that for the judges. In my spare time I was looking at the PB boosters on the 1970s for a buddy of mine.

Life is soo good. My thanks to all who helped me with the AJS there. You all did well; and I really appreciate your help. Thanks.

Just to add to Mark and Terry's comments above there were an unusual number of very nice 68-72 cars. There were 13 cars all together. I believe there were the two 69 Bowtie candidates mentioned above as well as three 70-72 Bowtie candidates and one 70 4 star Bowtie car being flight judged. Add a restored ZR-2 to the mix and a bunch of very nice flight cars and you have as nice a grouping of early shark cars as you'll see anywhere. Thanks to all the owners for taking the time to bring them for all to enjoy.

Mark, do you know the build date of the L89? Thanks, Chris

            Chris

I know it's in the 16,000 range so, around February, 1969.

A fellow by the name of Jeff Boone owns it...he's a very nice gentleman.

He's owned some awesome Camaros as well.

I can narrow that down a little, but I was so busy teaching I didn't get my usual VIN & build date info.

The International Orange L89 car is 149xx (two x-s because I don't remember) and the blue/blue is 140xx. One was Feb 14 and the other April something. Of course I know the April date is what you want, and I didn't look at the trim tag either. With any luck I will get that data at Hampton -- or better yet come and see for yourself. There is no substitute for drooling on these cars yourself.

I think the vin is in the 16000s but my memory could be wrong.

Not in my camera. I believe this is not the first rodeo for that ZR2. Every time I got back there the hood was closed.

                            Jeff,

It was a pleasure meeting you at Altoona and again thanks for the use of your car. I was just about speechless while looking at it -- those who know me will laugh at that. I do hope to have the opportunity to use it again for the Advanced Judging Seminar. Thank you for being so accomodating to my class. Thank you too for saving that car. Nice job.

The car came from Sutliff Chevrolet in Harrisburg, and the car has been 20 minutes from Carlisle, PA since 1971.
