Re: Tri power lines leaking again
a stripped holley float bowl is a very hard repair because the casting is very thin around the threads. Qjets can be repaired.- Top

Re: Tri power lines leaking again
Loctite 545 thread sealer stopped all fuel line leaks on my car. Available from industrial supply houses. Resists motor oil, unleaded gasoline, brake fluid, ethanol and water-glycol. No problem disconnecting the fitting. Once I saw the performnce on gas lines I started using it on oil line fittings too (distributor lube line, oil pressure gauge line, oil pan drain plug).- Top

Re: Tri power lines leaking again
Once-upon-a-time, even though I had only one carburetor ever needing this repair, I thought very seriously about buying the kit "just to be able to do it myself". Believe it or not, sensibility overtook me and I decided to let someone that already had the kit and the experience to use it do the repair. Every now-and-then that happens to me.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Tri power lines leaking again
Good advice Ken. The guy who restored my carbs originally is doing it FOC as a good will gesture but i think i'll buy new bowls as a precaution (they take a while to get to Australia). With possible future judging in mind i am trying to replace parts correctly, so would it be better to look for correct date restored replacements from US or is it ok to replace just the bowls? Could you suggest a good place to get either of them them from?
Cheers

Re: Tri power lines leaking again
Thanks Clem,
Interestingly i quizzed the repairer who said he would not suggest copper at all. The seals he has given me, his words, have a rubber coating and are Holley replacements. Could this be the problem?
Cheers

Re: Tri power lines leaking again
i am talking about the copper gaskets for the gas lines flares to the gas line fittings and you are talking about the gaskets for the float bowl to float bowl fitting . two different items- Top

Re: Tri power lines leaking again
Thanks for all the great advice and comments. I'd like to hedge my bets and purchase some bowls just in case. Can anyone point me in the right direction? There are some NOS bowls available from on eBay, or would it be better purchasing new from a reputable supplier?
Cheers

Re: Tri power lines leaking again
Hi Ken,
Is the Lubriplate a brand name or the type of grease. Excuse my ignorance but we have white lithium grease available locally, is it the same. I remember as a very young mechanic some 30 years ago using this type of grease on door locks, hinges and Window mechanisms. Am i right in guessing its still the same?
Cheers
