    Stu, the float level is drop about a 1/8 inch. The one thing I don't have is fuel dripping into the carb. even after shut down. I will be trying the gasket set with a complete block off just to see how it works. the cold start should not be a problem as long as the temp is not freezing and have no plans for winter driving, as Boston weather doesn't permit to much driving.

      Edward,

      Don't they make a block off that restricts the passage down to a dime shaped hole. That heat in the plenum is your friend when the engine is running.

        Tim, In a since I think you are correct the heat help atomize the fuel for a lowered emissons, on the performance end, Cold air enhances performance, just as the perfomance manufacters make there intake manifolds with out cross overs on them.

        I am not sure that the dime sized hole in the of gasket will help with heat.

        I may do some reseacrh on this any way. I will try to talk to the gasket maker Fel Pro and see if they can give the pros and cons.

          Ed;

          You are, of course, taking into consideration that if you block off or restrict your cross over passages you will have to either wire open your exhaust heat riser valve or replace it with an L-84 spacer block. When the valve is closed during initial start and warm up, it backs the exhaust up through the cross over passages - that's what it does. Now maybe the exhaust pressure will open the valve some, but it can't help but be restrictive. Then too, if you do change the operation or eliminate the valve it kind of defeats the purpose of wanting it to be correct for judging. Also, you live in a colder climate, but I wouldn't do that even here in Florida and I'm not having my car judged. I have had my valve wired open in the past, and I have an L-84 spacer block on hand, but I have not found a need to change the valve or it's operation.

          One question; which model AFB do you have on your car? Reason I ask is that there are some unique characteristics on original 3461S's vs. replacement 3721SA or SB's. As an example, the 3461S has vapor vents above both the primary and secondary throttle butterflys while the 3721 series does not. These vents do help relieve some of the fuel vapors from above the butterflys before it condenses into raw fuel and puddles on the butterflys or in the intake manifold. The down side of these vents is that the vapors vent/evaporate in your garage causing a stink that ma ma's don't like. It's a trade off. I plugged mine to keep the peace. There are a number of other differences between the models, but none other that I can think of that would affect your percolation situation.
