Exhaust Tip Length

Approximately how far should the exhaust timps on a '65 extend beyond the body? I bought some correct tips from CC. They seem mighty long.

There is no set or specified dimension for the tips. I find they look most pleasing when aligned or indexed using the downward/vertical sections of the bumpers as an eyeball guide. Observe from the sides; the bumpers' angle & the tips' slash-cut about even with each other.

On my 63 I have them out from the bezel 5.5 inches. The rear bumpers stay cleaner from the exhaust and they look good. No problems with flight judging this year.

Originals arw swedged to fit over the muffler outlet. Just push on the outlet until it won't go on more and clamp, just like they did it at the factory.

On a 63, the galvanized heat shields will pretty much limit how far in you can move the tips. That is, of course, providing you are using the correct shields and original or correct reproduction tips. Either/or, it's a tight fit.
