    alternator stamp letter?

I have seen on some restored 66 67 alternators that there is a letter ''A'' ink stamped on the housing.
what does this signify and are there other letters used?

I don't own a C2 but the 68/69 TIM&JG has a table that provides the broadcast code for each alternator part number. The ink stamp is a broadcast code that allowed the line worker to easily pull the correct part from the bin (rather than squinting to see the part number stamped into the housing).
