    54 Exhaust Manifold.

Hi, I was told at a meet that my exhaust man. lever (valve) was stuck because man. was turning white, it was definately stuck, I lubed it and worked it and is pretty free now, would this be because it was stuck closed(turned back counter clockwise) open seems rolled forward flat part of lever horizontal, and should this start out closed and then open up with heat and return closed when cool down? Just resprayed Manifold again and dont want to go through this again. Thank you,Brad.

take the spring and turn it around - it will hold the flapper wide open all the time - you wont have a problem then.........

Perhaps a naive question on my part but with the block off plate installed between the exhaust and intake manifold thus bypassing the hot air to the carbs at cold start is there really a need for the functioning of the heat riser mechanism outside of judging requirments?
          Thanks,
          John

Hi John, about the points, I lost 2 points because the heat valve was stuck I believe in the closed position, I also dont know why when the plate blocks off heat that the valve could do anything it wants and all is ok, but back to my first thread, my Manifold was turning white and was told it was the closed? valve, we will see if my fresh paint holds its own. Anyone else may chime in for othere, Thanks, Brad.
