1955 Kansas University Corvettes

Gentlemen, Some pictures from the 1955 Kansas University homecoming were brought to our last Oklahoma Chapter meeting and led us to this link. Look at pages 116-117.

Does anyone have this year book so we can get copies of this article entitled "Queens, Corvettes and Crete Paper" and satisfy our curiosity.

Scott. What information are you looking for. At our chapter car show this year Veryl and I had the priviledge of meeting a local man that was one of the drivers of the cars.

Kurt, Verle brought the pictures to the chapter meeting but I didnt get the story behind them. I found the yearbook website that showed one of the two pictures and I wished to get a copy of the article from the 1955 Kansas yearbook.
Do you know how to contact the local man you met at your show so we could get some more information from him.
After all six Corvettes in one place in 1955 would have been a big deal.

Scott, I do know how to get ahold of him, or should I say his caretaker. Unfortunately Mr. Don suffers from advanced Alzheimer's and has almost no contact with outsiders. A heart-touching story, Mr. Don saw the ad for our carshow in the newspaper in June. His caretaker told me he saw it was a Corvette show and he asked if he could go, in spite of his physical difficulties. During the show his caretaker was directed to me as chapter chairman, and she asked if we had any '55 Vettes at the show. Not having a '55, but knowing Verle had his '57 there it was close enough. While posing him for a picture by Verles car, the plan was to stand him next to the drivers side with his hand on the top of the car. Instead, he stuck his hand in the window, grabbed the wheel and gave it a wiggle. The biggest smile hit his face, and tears hit his caretakers cheeks. She said she hadn't seen him smile like that since he came down with the disease. For one brief moment he remember the fun of driving a Corvette as a college sophomore. His memory was back, and sharp if for only a moment. Kinda brings a lump to my throat just remembering it. That one second made the entire show thi year worth it, and I hope he can make it to our show next year.
