1972 Ingnition Buzzer

This may be one of those dumb questions but in looking through the owners manual and the archives I can't spot at exact answer.

While I had the driver's side kick panel out I replaced the door switch was was shot. After reconnecting the battery to test it I'm getting the buzzing when the door is open but I don't have the ignition key in the switch. Should I get a buzzing if the key has already Been removed? The buzzer stops when the door is closed.

The short answer: No, the key buzzer should not sound with the key out of the ignition switch and the door open. The following paper may help you locate the cause of your problem which boils down to a relay problem or a steering column problem (most likely in the buzzer switch itself in the column head or a lock cylinder tab that is stuck). Do you have a standard (non-adjustable) column or a Tilt & Telescoping one? The key buzzer switches are different between the two types of steering columns. The lock cylinders are the same.
