    C3 muffler blackout

At last year's Texas Regional, I got dinged by the Chassis Judge for "finish" on my '75 mufflers and by the Exterior Judge for having "painted" exhaust tips. I finished my mufflers using a 7K mile '75 that Bowtied at Detroit Nationals as the guide. I made them match the attached photos of Larry Gerig's '75 plus the JG states the mufflers were "painted with black out spray to hide their appearance...often carelessly and incompletely applied". However, form the photos, the mufflers were clearly blacked out prior to installation as there is no overspray on the hangers and there is a very straight line paint to the inside of the muffler.

To avoid future point loss, I ask for suggestions on what best to do in either 1. Communicating with the judges, or 2. Changing my mufflers.

    Thanks,
    Tory

Next time, show the judges the two attached pictures. I wouldn't change anything on the car.

      Agreed.

If your car looks like the ones shown, then leave it alone.

The mufflers were blacked out at the exhaust manufacture factory but all have varied application because they were hand applied and as Patrick stated if yours look like Larry's leave them as they are. Also if during shipment some of the blackout was damage/scratched off they would be touched up at St. Louis.

Thanks guys. Leaving them alone is always the easiest thing to do!
