    C1 Grille Tooth studs

I was at a recent event and was watching judging of a 1960. The judge commented that the grille tooth studs were to long, i.e. sticking out to far on the inside. The ones on my 1960 appear to be the same as the car that I saw judged. They are replacements.

Corvette Central's website says theirs are the correct length, but does not give a length. I've emailed asking for the length so I can compare to what I have now.

The ones I have now are 4" long and there is 7/8" of thread past the nuts on the inside when installed.

Anyone have an original laying around that you can measure?

    Thanks,

    Don

So I got a response from CC. Their studs are 3 3/4". I would still like to hear from someone with originals if this is the correct length.

    Thanks

The originals on my car vary between 1/2" and 9/16" from the back of the nut to the end of the stud.

My '57s are 3-3/4" long with about 7/8" thd each end. "Assume" they're the same as '60.

Donald, at the Lone Star Regional, the judges noted that the studs extended too far out from the back of the teeth. I don't know if they are original studs because I have not measure one, but I used a tap and cleaned out the holes and inserted the studs as far as they would go. Mine average about 5/8" with one at 7/8" inch.

I'm a little late chiming in - like four years! However, I am at this stage of reassembling my car and ran across this thread. For the good of the group, I cad plated what I believe to be original teeth studs on my car. They measure the same as Rod Kramer's. 3 3/4" long with 7/8" of thread on either end unlike the cheap Chinese ones which have different length threads at either end.

Yes originals are shorter. I have a set to sell if anyone needs them.

Or you can cut off the repos. Cut the end that goes into the tooth. Otherwise the other end where you cut off the cad plating will rust over time if exposed.
