1982 radio issues

I have an 82 collector Edition. My AM stopped working on my radio. FM works fine and so does the tape player. Any help would be great. I am going to Reginals in a month and would love to have this fixed before then. Thanks for everyone's help.

Todds Electronics, talk to Elmer Hoeferlin, time and $ well spent. i have a 82ce, he did mine about a month ago.

First thing to check is the antenna. FM will receive with almost no signal, AM won't. Trying a test antenna plugged directly into the radio is the best way to check. If AM works, antenna cable could be bad or damaged. Next step is to plug test antenna in at power antenna cable under car. If AM works now, problem is in the power antenna.

New Member First Post - I have a 1982 CE cassette player not working. Everything else on the unit appears to be fine. Any reputable restorers or knowledgeable people you can provide? I have done the google search thing, searched ebay, etc. I need the knowledge of direct experience now. Thanks in advance.

I too have an '82 (not CE). In about August 2020 I used Todd's Electronics (discussed in posts 2 and 3, above) to repair the cassette tape drive and they did a great job. Those posts above are almost 9 years old but Elmer with Todd's Electronics is still there and doing great work. He also repaired the eject mechanism on the cassette tape player in my '81.

Very good, Shaun. Good luck. I should say that I have actually used Todd's three times. The last two times (which were both last year), I did not even call. I just mailed my prized original radio to Todd's. They fixed both in about a week and then shipped the repaired radio back to me with a bill. I promptly sent a check by mail to cover the cost of the repair. You don't see that level of trust from a vendor much these days.
