    C2 turn signal problem

This relates to my 66. With steering wheel straight ahead I can engage the right turn signal and everything works fine. I.e. flashes until I make a right turn then it cancels. When I try to indicate a left turn, I have difficutly engaging the left turn. Generally I have to pull down hard on the turn signal lever to even get the flasher started, then I have to hold it or it will not say on.

Before I go off and start replacing everything, anyone have a similar experience. I.e. switch, or canceling cam, or something else.

    Thanks,

    Don

    Don -

Most likely it's related to the movable cam assembly on the switch itself; the cancelling cam attached to the bottom of the steering wheel hub isn't involved in engaging the switch, only in turning it off.

But if it is not centered correctly it could be lined up just so it would be hard to engage and stay put. So turn the wheel a little to the right and then try to set the left signal. If it sets there and then cancels when you go back to the left and then right, the column is not located correctly.

        Thanks,

Actually if I turn the wheel a little to the left of center it will let me engage the left turn signal and it cancels find. I'll pull the horn button and contact and take a look. Then I would assume I need to adjust the assembly clockwise a little if I'm thinking correctly

Well maybe. As I recall, part of this assembly is plastic and can break, but I'm not sure if that is the part that is causing you trouble.

I'll take it apart and have a look.

Don - If it has worked and now it's failed, I agree with Paul and the suspect the plastic piece is broken. Pete

                  Re: C2 turn signal problem

I have not solved the problem. I changes the part of turn signal that the handle screws into (the horse shoe shaped piece), made sure the canceling cam was situated correctly, and that the turn signal assembly was situated correctly. It got better, but still have the same problem.

I have studied the assembly enough that I know what the problem is, just not sure how to solve it. In my case, the horse shoe piece that the handle is attached to and that actually engages the signal is jamming into the canceling cam when I try to indicate a left turn. The end of the horse shoe piece is sort of flexible and is supposed the pass over the edge of the canceling cam when you pull the handle to indicate a left or right turn and engage the signal. Then when the wheel is turned, the canceling cam goes back past the end of the horse shoe piece and the end of the horse shoe piece snaps back into position so that when the wheel is turned back toward center, the edge of the canceling cam pushes on the horse shoe piece and returns the turn signal to neutral position.

Mine works fine when turing to the right. But as I indicated above, the tip of the horse shoe piece jams into the edge of the canceling cam instead of passing over it when I try to indicate a left turn. I have looked a number of times and can not see anything obviously wrong, so I bought an NOS switch assembly, but have not installed it yet.

Thanks for the response Don. I'll dig into my issue in the next couple weeks and let you know if I solve the problem.
